Who is responsible for ensuring that team members complete their tasks during the Sprint?

The Development Team is responsible for ensuring that team members complete their tasks during the Sprint. In Scrum, the Development Team has the autonomy to manage its own work and to decide how to accomplish the goals of the Sprint. During Sprint planning, the team collaborates to select items from the product backlog to commit to for the Sprint and breaks those items down into actionable tasks.

Each member of the Development Team is accountable for the progress of their tasks, and they collectively monitor the work through daily Scrum meetings. This self-organization is a key tenet of Scrum, allowing the Development Team to adapt to changes and address challenges without needing external oversight. The Scrum Master, while there to facilitate and support the team, does not dictate or manage the tasks of the team members; their role involves coaching and helping the team to improve its processes. Similarly, the Product Owner focuses on maximizing the value of the product and doesn't manage task completion directly. Stakeholders provide input and feedback but do not have a role in the task management of the Development Team.
